Evenings babes,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you have all had a fabulous festive season including a brilliant end of 2017 and chilled entry into 2018 x

.

Today I thought it would be appropriate to talk about the topic on everyone’s lips “new years resolutions” “New Year New Me”…I am going to be honest, I am not a fan of New Years Resolutions. Now this is not to be confused with goal setting as in my mind they are two very different things, let me explain.

I believe goals are a fantastic motivation and a great way to keep focused in what you want to achieve whether it’s fitness, health, business or relationship related.

I also believe that January 1st is a great place to start new chapters, the same way people psychologically always gravitate to Mondays to be their ‘new start’.

However what I don’t believe in is creating ambiguous, broad resolutions (plural being important here) that aren’t attainable, sustainable or enjoyable they are merely part of social conformity and pressures.

I was talking to someone the other day who was asking people about a running club in the area as “I have got fat and need to shift some weight this new year”. Putting my views about running for fat loss aside for a second, we began talking in more detail and it turns out they don’t enjoy running, finds it difficult getting motivation for it and ends up being in pain for days after but it is a ‘means to an end’…! What is the point of setting goals in something you have no interest, passion or enjoyment for? There is no wonder that over 70% of new years resolutions fail by the end of January.

This is the type of conversation that fueled my need for this blog, there were continuous barriers to exercise that came out in this conversation, and this is exactly what I mean. Don’t crumble under “world motivations” when it’s all a load of shit.  I mean look at our lives now, our whole life is electronic. You are constantly faced with insights of everyone’s lives – showing you snapshots that THEY WANT YOU TO SEE/SHOW OFF. We all do it – you don’t see posts saying “I can’t be arsed at all today, I just want to hibernate”. You would see a picture of trainers/gym kit on and say “Off to the gym! Keeping to my New Year’s Resolutions” and just sit back on the sofa. Meanwhile you are sat there feeling rubbish believing you are the only one not making the move.

Reality is, you have to WANT to do it. You need to want to take steps in the direction you want to go in. Write out your goals, aspirations and make a plan for 2018 and work at it everyday. Surround yourself with a supportive, encouraging and fabulous network of people and go for it. As soon as your goals are actually inspiration to you, you will find your passion and with that comes dedication, determination and time (because you will MAKE time).

There are two mindsets in this world “fixed” and “growth” the simplest way I can break this down is –

Fixed Mindset – “Nothing ventured, nothing lost”.

Growth Mindset – “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”.

Which mindset are you in now and is this what you want for 2018?

Babies don’t fall on their bums when learning to walk and give up and decide it’s not for them. They get back up regardless of their surroundings and keep going – until the impossible becomes possible.

Do not see failure as failings,  they are lessons learnt. There is always a way if you are committed.

Journey’s are not quick, easy solutions. Things will be difficult, life gets in the way, personal and professional events come into play. Don’t let this make you cut corners, eventually taking you back to the start. Use all positive and negative energy as strength to continue to develop and be the best version of yourself you can be.

Equally remember you are not alone,  create the network professionally and personally. This January, do not get sucked into fad diet, fad exercise or even fad business schemes”. Realise that development does not happen over night – be smart.

Write your 2018 list and let’s do this together.
