So this week I have decided to go against the normal format as I have to tell you about my weekend! My husband and I surprised our best friend and got tickets for the AJ fight in Cardiff at the Principality stadium.
Well, I mean, there are no words. I could sit here and chat to you about the technical details pretending I was a boxing connoisseur like the “ladsssssssss (on tour)” think they are but it’s difficult to see past the muscles to be honest…

So, Saturday came and we managed to find our lovely little hideaway annex in the countryside of Cardiff built off the most beautiful ‘life goals’ house with the most dreamy, friendly and accommodating Welsh host. (As soon as we arrived we pretty much got ready and went straight out).
Travelling in the car on the way there all we could see was the huge spotlights through the clouds going crazy. The good news is from this point until we were pretty much in the stadium where we were all so excited, we went to a touch of the frozen cat. We were all so giddy but overwhelmed we couldn’t really interact with each other. I don’t think I heard Kez speak for about 45 minutes…a bit like a frozen cat!!

It was similar to when you are playing hide & seek as a kid and you can hear the person coming close and you are trying everything in your power not to breakout into a weird dance routine but you have to keep hiding so you end up doing a weird breathless squeal.
Until this point we didn’t really know what to properly expect, until we turned the corner and saw all the roads, hotels, bars, clubs, and cash machine queues absolutely filled to the brim with people. All you could hear were the chants of “Anthony Joshua”. As you can imagine this sent us even further frozen cat….we’ve gone from cat having mild brain freeze to cat actually stuck in a freezer.
The time came when we ventured into the arena and after what felt about half a decade we had our drinks and made our way to our seats, what an incredible stadium! All you could see were the lights going crazy, with the small ring in the middle of it all and the huge roars from the crowds.

After completely losing my mind after seeing AJ coming to the ring in his sexy dressing gown (technical term) the fight started and what a fight it was. I didn’t actually realise how good of a fight it was until watching it back on the TV where you can really see the punches and defends.
Fair play, Carlos came out and absolutely smashed it, defended very well in a technique that can only be described as a new puppy desperate for a wee or when he first sees his owner after a couple of hours. Did I mention I am definitely a boxing connoisseur?
Rounds came and went, music was played, dance moves were moving and voice pretty much left the building after round 2. I can safely say I sound like a husky dot cotton.
Anyway to cut a long story short, the fight got called a bit too early however the 18stone of pure hunk won it again keeping his belts and reputation in tact. The crowd continued to roar and chant for AJ followed by communal renditions of various songs but the favourite was Sweet Caroline (do do dooooooo)!
I guess this is why people enjoy football and any major sporting event so much, the atmosphere and buzz is amazing.
I just can’t imagine the training psychologically you need, having to stay so focused despite the anticipation of beating the shit out of someone but also with a 74,500 arena going absolutely mental for you, chanting your name. I get nervous if I have to walk late into a training session full of people that I don’t know let alone that!!
A lot of people were saying they were disappointed in the fight and granted AJ was not on usual form but then Carlos came in 12 days before the fight. 9 weeks of preparation to beat Pulev vanished in seconds. I know we all absolutely loved it and I think it was a successful evening all round. This was topped off with us getting lost in the uber on the way home round tiny country lanes and Mikey asking the driver to ask a passing taxi driver if he knew where the “cattlegrid” was. The poor uber driving wasn’t English so just straight off asked the question not realising how ridiculous that was; I mean sure a cattle grid in the countryside – how unusual must be round the corner…

Next week normal service will resume and I am going to bring in the lovely Kez and we are going to serve a tasty meal with recipe up for you and looking at how to make the most of the cupboards/fridge before the next shop
